Refugio de ayuda que nació con la inspiración de una niña con leucemia

Casa Maka es un centro de servicios complementarios para niños con diagnóstico de cáncer o poco comunes ubicado en el municipio de Tampico.

El nacimiento de este espacio de ayuda fue por azares del destino. Todo comenzó con la meta de ayudar a una pequeña de 14 años con leucemia, cuando una noble familia, sin pensarlo dos veces, decidió apoyarla porque no tenía ni dónde dormir cuando se trasladaba hacia la capital de Tamaulipas para recibir sus quimioterapias.

Gaby García y su esposo Jesús Noriega, tuvieron el contacto con la niña Panchita, de 14 años de edad y quien era originaria de Chicontepec, Veracruz, hablaba dialecto náhuatl, al igual que su padre que era campesino.

No tenían dónde llegar, dónde dormir, dónde comer o hacer sus necesidades, por ello peregrinaban por largas distancias para llegar a hospitales, y fue gracias a un maestro del CETis 109 que se pudieron contactar con ella. 

Empezaron a visitar a empresarios, solicitaron despensas, estufa, cama y adecuaron un cuarto en la calle Álvaro Obregón de la colonia Melchor Ocampo en Tampico para que se pudiera quedar con su padre.

LA NECESIDAD ERA MAYOR

Pero Panchita no solamente quería quedarse sin hacer nada al ver que más niños también tenían las mismas necesidades que ella y comenzó a recomendar a la señora Gaby y su esposo dando sus teléfonos y también su dirección.

“Ella se volvió una vocera en el nosocomio ya que a los demás niños que eran pacientes les empezó a decir que había un lugar en Tampico donde les podían dar apoyo y de pronto comenzaron a recibir muchas solicitudes”, dijo Gaby García, la ahora presidenta y fundadora de esta asociación.

Fue así como hubo una lista de espera y tuvieron que avanzar más en este proyecto con el apoyo de asociaciones y la población en general para incrementar la capacidad de atención y atender toda la demanda que se estaba registrando.

EL LEGADO DE PANCHITA

Finalmente ella murió en el hospital en Ciudad Victoria hace unos años y les ayudaron a traer su cuerpo desde Ciudad Victoria en una carroza a Tampico, desde donde salió a Chicontepec.

“Nos dejó una responsabilidad, ella fue una vocera en el hospital, fue esa pequeña, fueron azares del destino, nos unió, algo ocurrió, influyó en el destino y en nuestras actividades, y nos quedamos con el compromiso de seguir ayudando a las familias, pero ya no como algo a la ligera, tenía que ser algo más formal y es así como nace esta asociación legalmente constituida”.

Después de cinco años, la asociación ha evolucionado y ahora son 30 niños los que reciben apoyo psicológico, nutricional, terapia física, rehabilitación, apoyo escolar, hospedaje, alimentación, tanatología, medicina alterna y despensas cada 15 días de productos básicos, así como un kit de viaje que es lo que requiere el paciente para su estancia en el hospital como pañales, cubrebocas, gel antibacterial, entre otras cosas.

Son apoyos que se obtienen a través de las campañas de reciclaje permanente. Se cuida el medio ambiente y transforman todos esos residuos que se pueden reutilizar en ayuda para sus pacientes. 

“Son tapitas pet, papel, cartón, revistas, folletos, enciclopedias, latas de aluminio y basura electrónica, es una lista muy amplia que cualquier persona encuentra en su hogar, antes de que lo saquen a la calle a que se convierta en más basura, es importante darle un significado diferente, ya en esta ocasión es ayudar a quien más lo necesita”.

GRANDES FUNDACIONES RECONOCEN SU LABOR

Entre los reconocimientos que han tenido, está el entregado por la Fundación Fleishman, en noviembre del año pasado, con un premio en efectivo que los ayudó a adquirir una camioneta que es la que usan para mover el material donado.

Otras distinciones han sido también por parte de Sertoma Tampico y el Club de Leones. Esto es algo que los motiva a salir adelante. Cabe hacer mención que todo esto es posible gracias a los voluntarios y profesionistas que se han sumado a estas acciones.
