Bank of America es optimista sobre su futuro en México, según el director de la unidad del banco en el país, y se beneficiará del “nearshoring” incluso después de las amenazas de aranceles a las exportaciones a Estados Unidos por parte del presidente electo Donald Trump.
La amenaza de Trump a principios de esta semana de aplicar aranceles a México y Canadá agitó los mercados y nubló el horizonte para las inversiones de empresas multinacionales en la región.
Los tres países forman parte del el T-MEC, que se revisará en 2026. Las naciones vecinas, en particular Estados Unidos y México, dependen en gran medida de las importaciones y exportaciones del otro.
“Será muy difícil que las incertidumbres, ya sean efectos internos o externos, alteren o modifiquen las oportunidades que vemos en México”, dijo el director de Bank of America en México, Emilio Romano, en una conferencia de prensa.
‘Nearshoring no se revertirá’, asegura Romano
“Creemos que el fenómeno del nearshoring o friendshoring no se revertirá”, dijo, en referencia a la tendencia en la que las grandes multinacionales han trasladado sus operaciones a la segunda economía de Latinoamérica.
“México no se desviará de esta integración económica norteamericana, no hay vuelta atrás”.
Bank of America espera duplicar sus ingresos y volumen de clientes en México en los próximos cinco años, dijo Romano.
La base de clientes de la firma debería crecer de 400 a 800, según el ejecutivo. En México, BofA ofrece servicios bancarios institucionales y no atiende a clientes individuales.
Romano se negó a proporcionar más detalles sobre las perspectivas de ingresos del banco.
Las amenazas arancelarias de Trump seguirán generando volatilidad en el mercado, dijo Romano. Sin embargo, advirtió que probablemente se trate de una estrategia de negociación de Trump para iniciar las negociaciones comerciales y es poco probable que se impongan.
