Los fabricantes de automóviles europeos y estadounidenses podrían perder hasta un 17% de sus ganancias básicas anuales combinadas si Estados Unidos impone aranceles a las importaciones a Europa, México y Canadá, dijo S&P Global en un informe el viernes, advirtiendo de posibles rebajas en las calificaciones crediticias.
Fabricantes de automóviles premium como Volvo y Jaguar Land Rover, que producen principalmente en Europa, y General Motors y Stellantis que ensamblan grandes volúmenes de automóviles en México y Canadá, son los más expuestos a la amenaza de aranceles más altos, dijo S&P.
El presidente electo Donald Trump dijo el lunes que impondría un arancel del 25% a las importaciones de Canadá y México hasta que tomen medidas enérgicas contra las drogas y los inmigrantes que cruzan la frontera, una medida que parecería violar un acuerdo de libre comercio entre los tres países.
Los analistas y expertos temen que los aranceles puedan ser más perjudiciales para los fabricantes de automóviles europeos que cualquier arancel directo sobre los productos de la UE.
“Esperamos que las acciones de mitigación hagan que los aranceles potencialmente más altos sean manejables, pero los efectos combinados de los aranceles, la regulación más estricta del CO2 en Europa a partir de 2025 y la presión sobre las ganancias por una competencia más fuerte en China y Europa podrían aumentar el riesgo de rebajas”, dijo S&P.
