Tarjetas departamentales: Más costos y menos protección

En la temporada decembrina muchas familias aprovechan las promociones para adquirir regalos y artículos con sus tarjetas de crédito. Entre las opciones, las tarjetas departamentales suelen destacar por sus facilidades de acceso y ofertas. Sin embargo, antes de elegir un plástico como medio de pago, es importante analizar sus condiciones y entender cómo estas decisiones pueden impactar tus finanzas a largo plazo.

Algunas alternativas pueden parecer convenientes al principio, pero podrían generar complicaciones si no se utilizan adecuadamente.

Los deudores crecen para las departamentales

Las tarjetas departamentales como Liverpool, Elektra y Palacio de Hierro suelen tener características diferentes a las de los bancos tradicionales, por lo que es importante conocer los detalles del contrato para saber a qué tipo de penalizaciones estás expuesto en caso de atrasarte con los pagos.

Adolfo Ruiz Guzmán, director de Asuntos Internos de Grupo Financiero B×+, explicó que las tarjetas departamentales no están reguladas como las bancarias: “Estas tarjetas tienen sus propias estrategias y estructuras para ofrecer crédito. Desde el día uno de atraso, los cobros empiezan, y los intereses suelen ser significativamente más altos”.

Liverpool reportó un crecimiento del 16.7% en su portafolio neto de crédito durante el tercer trimestre de 2024, con una cartera vencida del 4.1%, lo que representa un aumento de 63 puntos en comparación con el mismo período del año previo, según su último reporte trimestral..

Las ventas realizadas con sus tarjetas de crédito representaron el 48.7% del total en el periodo de referencia.

En el caso de Elektra, su índice de morosidad consolidado fue del 4.2% al cierre del tercer trimestre de 2024, en comparación con el 5.7% registrado en el mismo periodo del año anterior. En Banco Azteca México, el índice de morosidad pasó de 5.3% a 3.5% en el mismo lapso, según su más reciente informe​trimestral.

Palacio de Hierro no nuestra cifras exactas sobre su cartera vencida en su reporte anual 2023, aunque analistas estiman que ésta ronda el 5%.

Los retos financieros que acompañan a las tarjetas departamentales

Los plásticos departamentales imponen comisiones por pagos extemporáneos, lo que incrementa el costo total de la deuda. Según Ruiz Guzmán, la falta de regulación bancaria permite que cada institución determine sus propias condiciones, esto incluye el tiempo para transferir la deuda a despachos de cobranza, algo que en tarjetas bancarias ocurre después de tres meses de impago.

Respecto al historial crediticio, el especialista destacó que las tarjetas departamentales también reportan a instituciones como el Círculo de Crédito. “Aunque no se consideran créditos bancarios, afectan de igual manera tu historial y capacidad crediticia futura”, comentó.

En comparación, las tarjetas bancarias ofrecen opciones de renegociación y respaldo de instituciones como la Condusef, algo que no ocurre en las departamentales. “Un banco puede ofrecer meses con intereses o planes de pago que reduzcan el impacto en el historial crediticio, pero en las departamentales esto no sucede”, agregó.

Antes de adquirir una tarjeta departamental, es crucial analizar los costos asociados, como el Costo Anual Total (CAT), las tasas de interés y las comisiones. Como recomendó Ruiz Guzmán: “La clave está en revisar detalladamente los términos para evitar sorpresas que afecten tus finanzas personales”.

Aumentos en comparación con tarjetas bancarias

Expansión revisó contratos de dos tarjetas bancarias y dos departamentales para identificar las diferencias más relevantes en sus costos. Aquí te presentamos los puntos clave:

Comisiones por atraso:

  • Liverpool (DILISA): 3,111 pesos por mes de atraso.
  • Palacio de Hierro: 435 pesos por evento.
  • BBVA: Incluido en los intereses moratorios.
  • Citibanamex: 399 pesos por evento.

Comisiones por disposición de efectivo:

  • Liverpool (DILISA): 20% del monto retirado.
  • Palacio de Hierro: 7% del monto retirado + IVA.
  • Citibanamex: 5% del monto retirado.
  • BBVA: No especificado.

Comisión anual:

  • Liverpool (DILISA): 2,074 pesos (20 UMAs).
  • Palacio de Hierro: Sin costo.
  • BBVA: 748 pesos sin IVA.
  • Citibanamex: 815 pesos sin IVA.

Intereses moratorios:

  • Liverpool (DILISA): Hasta 3 veces la tasa ordinaria (150%-180%).
  • Palacio de Hierro: Detalles no claros.
  • BBVA y Citibanamex: Basados en tasas ordinarias, notablemente más bajas que las de Liverpool.
